You may be one of those who are afraid to know about their electricity bills every month. Higher electric bills causes stress as your monthly budget on electricity bills exceeds and you are not sure of the amount you need to set aside for your utility cost. With the advancement of technology, a number of modern day appliances have come up making life easier. However, these appliances consume a lot of electricity to function. Another reason why electric bills are high is that one may keep the devices plugged in when it is not in use which also sucks electricity. Furthermore, there are people who misuse electricity. So it is time to go solar now as it will help to reduce electricity bills.
Data related to residential power consumption
Since 2000,
electricity consumption in Indian homes has tripled. The percentage of homes
having electricity has increased to more than 80% in 2017 from 55% in 2001. On
an average, the electricity consumption of a household per month was 90 units
(kWh) in 2014. According to data collected by the Central Electricity Authority
(CEA) from distribution companies, all the states have demonstrated a sharp
rise in total residential electricity consumption. For instance, the total
electricity generated in 2015 was 1107.822 BU, out of which residential
consumption amounted to 221.5644 BU. The total population of India at that time
was estimated at 1.25 billion, out of which electrified population was 1.00
billion. Therefore, average residential electricity consumption per person
(221.5644/1.00) was 221.21 units for an average family size of 4 persons.
Average annual residential consumption was 884.84 units.
How adapting residential solar panels can benefit?
The most
important benefit of adapting residential solar panels is that it reduces or
eliminates electricity bills. Since solar energy is derived from the sun, Residential Solar Panels are a great
way to reduce energy cost. It is a renewable source of energy and will never
run out in your lifetime. When electricity is generated through solar panels,
no harmful greenhouse gases are released. It has a positive impact on the
environment as it helps to combat emission of greenhouse gases. It is a
long-term investment as the cost is recovered within 6-10 years and it can
generate power for 25 years. The value of your property gets appreciated. Solar
energy is a reliable source of energy, as it can never turn into a monopoly
business.
Solar
systems usually come with a warranty period of 25 years. To calculate the
return it provides, a span of 25 years should be considered. It takes somewhere
between 6 to 10 years to recover the cost of solar panels. Since Residential Solar Panels generates
power for about 25 years, for the rest of the 19 to 15 years you continue to get
electricity at no cost as solar panels require very little operating expenses.
The most important criteria for solar energy is abundance of sunlight which
India already has. The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) in India has
introduced various CFA schemes to promote solar energy in India. Some of these
are:
- Scheme for Solar Parks and Ultra Mega Solar Power Projects.
- Installation of grid-connected solar PV power projects under Phase-II with support of VGF through SECI
